MARSH & PARSONS – BAKER STREET

LONDON

Once the home of the ‘Apple Store’ set up by John Lennon in the ’60’s to sell clothes, AMI created a new design concept for the ground floor of this Grade II listed building at 94 Baker Street.

Design challenges

Co-ordination between contractor and landlord was crucial for this project as the apartments above the M&P-owned space were being renovated at the same time. (The style of the apartments above, by designer Rolf Judd, owes more than a nod to a Beatles style)! M&P’s site had terracotta pot and beam arched floors  which created a large opening that was central to the space: a particular challenge for the engineers was to calculate the exact positions for spreader plates and steals.

Glass Stairs

The office and meeting space is organised around a central atrium that allows light to wash into the basement. The staircase, built by Compass Glass, consists of hidden fixings for the glass treads.
